Week 1
(The edited version)
Week 1- Assignment 1: Here's where my years as a CAI helped me out! For the adult, I got a 22/24 and for the kids, I got a 19/20, but I think I should have a 19.5 because I knew enough of the title for "Guess How Much I Love You?" that I would have been able to look it up if I had wanted to cheat.
Week 1- Assignment 2: Got all except the techo thriller one. Gotta brush up on my thriller sub-genres...
Week 1- Assigment 3: Useful article. I need to work on #6- Don't pigeonhole the books.
Week 1- Assignment 4: After looking at the "Recommended Links- Books" and the "Recommended Links- Genres" (and adding about half-a million books to my "to read list"), I decided on Daily Beast and Urban Reviews.
Daily Beast was fairly easy to navigate and because I already use Early Word and GoodReads, I wanted to try something new. I'll admit though, if I have a few spare minutes, I'll most likely take a peek at NPR- Books and Salon-Books to fluff up my "want to read" list. :-)
I picked Urban Reviews because Urban Fiction is the genre that I am least familiar/comfortable with. I'm fortunate that at my branch, my UF readers know what they want, but I know the day is coming when I'll have a customer ask for recommendations and I'd like to have a few resources at the ready.
Week 1- Assignment 5: Too cute! That kid has an imagination. My favorites were Jane Eyre as a gold miner and Slaughterhouse 5 being about a slot machine lost in the desert!

You may like to try Island 731 by Jeremy Robinson. It is a fast paced thriller on a pacific island with genetic engineering.
